The Edge lies between worlds, on the border between the Broken, where people shop at Walmart and magic is a fairytale–and the Weird, where blueblood aristocrats rule, changelings roam, and the strength of your magic can change your destiny…

Cerise Mar and her unruly clan are cash poor but land rich, claiming a large swathe of the Mire, the Edge swamplands between the state of Louisiana and the Weird. When her parents vanish, her clan’s long-time rivals are suspect number one.

But all is not as it seems. Two nations of the Weird are waging a cold war fought by feint and espionage, and their conflict is about to spill over into the Edge—and Cerise’s life . William, a changeling soldier who left behind the politics of the Weird, has been forced back into service to track down a rival nation’s spymaster.

When William’s and Cerise’s missions lead them to cross paths, sparks fly—but they’ll have to work together if they want to succeed…and survive.

4 Moon Stars

Suspense, Intrigue, Adventure, Betrayal, Romance!

I’m a big fan of Ilona Andrews. I love the Kate Daniels”series, so I set out to check out her other works and I’ve not been disappointed.

I loved the relationship between Cerise and William. Cerise, she’s strong and determined, and admirable. She holds her family together when disaster happens. I loved William’s vulnerability and dedication. He has his difficult and sad childhood. He’s a changeling, he’s a monster, but when William loves, he loves true and it’s forever.

“If you love him, fight for him. Nothing worth keeping is free in this world. If you don’t love him, cut him loose. Just don’t take too long to decide. Our future might be short.”

As for the story it starts out slow and the plot was vastly complicated then On the Edge, but still a great read. Basically, if you liked On the Edge then you will like Bayou Moon.

Update:

2021 Audio: I loved the audio. It had me discovering new things I missed in this story my first go around. The voices are distinctive. I really enjoy Renee Raudman’s narration. She’s a wonderful narrator to listen too.

About Ilona Andrews

“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

They have co-authored several bestselling series, including the #1 NYT bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels, rustic fantasy of the Edge, paranormal romance of Hidden Legacy, and Innkeeper Chronicles, which they post as a free weekly serial.
