Rose Drayton lives on the Edge, between the world of the Broken (where people drive cars, shop at Wal-Mart, and magic is a fairy tale) and the Weird (where blueblood aristocrats rule, changelings roam, and the strength of your magic can change your destiny). Only Edgers like Rose can easily travel from one world to the next, but they never truly belong in either. Rose thought if she practiced her magic, she could build a better life for herself. But things didn't turn out how she planned, and now she works a minimum wage, off-the-books job in the Broken just to survive.

Then Declan Camarine, a blueblood noble straight out of the deepest part of the Weird, comes into her life, determined to have her (and her power). But when a terrible danger invades the Edge from the Weird, a flood of creatures hungry for magic, Declan and Rose must work together to destroy them - or they'll devour the Edge and everyone in it.

I’m taking part in the 2025 Read-Along for The Edge series & Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews hosted by Books of My Heart.

On the Edge is a re-read, but also a first time listen for me. My original thoughts still apply.

I am always awed and captivated when I pick up an Andrews book. On the Edge was a re-read for me and I relished this mind-blowing and shocking story all over again.

The beginning was a bit hard again to get into, but the Andrews team are detailed in exploring and explaining the world and different aspects of it. The characters where just as captivating as they where the first time I read this novel. I enjoyed the banter, challenges, and determination both have. The romance was a nice steady build.

I liked the threat to the Edge people and the introduction of William, who does get his own book. Ya! I also loved the children. They are adorable and unique.

Their is never a dull moment. Amazing characters and outstanding world building. I am always blown away and pulled into a unbelievable adventure. Each book feels like the first time reading it, even if I have already read it.

Rated: 4 Edge Stars

Jan. 2025 Audio: The audio for On the Edge is entertaining. Renée Raudman does a wonderful job narrating this title. The characters personalities and thoughts come across. The action and adventure is well done. I enjoyed listening to this title.

About Ilona Andrews

“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

They have co-authored several bestselling series, including the #1 NYT bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels, rustic fantasy of the Edge, paranormal romance of Hidden Legacy, and Innkeeper Chronicles, which they post as a free weekly serial. For complete list of their books, fun extras, and Innkeeper installments, please visit their website at Ilona-andrews.com.

    1. This series is much different from the Kate Daniels and Innkeeper Chronicles series. It’s a single romance in each novel. I fell Andrews Team do better with bringing the romance out in 3 or more novels. Sorry you couldn’t get into the novel. Hope your next read is better. Thanks for visiting.

  1. I love everything they do, but I have to say, I didn’t love this one as much as I did the first time. I think it was the romance – it was too quick for me. They do better when they have a few books to make it work. But I’m excited to get on to the next books!

    1. This series is 1 romance in each book. I agree with you they do better working the romance than a 1 book romance. Still It’s an enjoyable series. I like all the action and interesting magic and characters. Thanks for visiting!
