~ 3.5 Midnight’s Kiss Stars ~
Midnight’s Kiss is book eight in the Elder Races series by Thea Harrison and it takes place right at the the end of Night’s Honor. You should read Night’s Honor at least before you pick up Midnight’s Kiss.
I love this series! The Elder Races series is unique and addictive with a verity of creatures from gryphons, shifters, dragons, fae, vampires, witches, and many others. I have not been a big fan of the Nightkind in this series. They have not made there mark on me like the Wry have in this series.
I liked Melisande, daughter of the Light Fae Queen. She surprised me in this novel. I did not like her in Night’s Honor, but she was resourceful and kept her cool in a bad situation. I am indifferent to how I feel about Julian, the vampire Nightkind King, though I do think he makes a good Nighkind King. He radiates power and has a dark deadly appeal to him.
These two had a relationship, but something or someone helped put events into motion to end that relationship. Ever since the breakup, their meetings always end in a bitter bickering match. Though Julian’s enemy has seized an opportunity and set event’s into motion that will bring these two back together, but first they must talk about the breakup and come to terms about what really happened.
I got frustrated that these two could not talk it out and came to blows. Melisande means everything to him yet he couldn’t have a conversation with her about the important issue. I also got frustrated that Melisande did not ask the important question that was on her mind when Julian was chained up, but eventually it comes out. Just not as soon as I felt it should have. We do get some sweet and hot moments.
As for the big bad, it was not a surprise and you can predict how it ends.
Midnight’s Kiss was an enjoyable read, not fantastic, but still worth reading. There’s a familiarity with the writing. The world is pleasurable and I enjoyed seeing some of the other characters from previous novels show up. I can’t wait for Graydon’s book, which is next in line.

Audio 2021: Well I enjoyed this story more in audiobook then reading. The pace was much better and the narrator helped move things along. I enjoyed all the voices and found the pleasing to listen too. I did still get frustrated with our romantic couple in that it took them so long to talk it out. Communication is the key.

I love this series too. This is not my favorite book in the series. I disliked it for the same reasons you did. The dislike between two people who love each other so much was annoying. Also the villain was predictable. I loved Night’s Honor. I hope that we go back to the Wyr again. I really liked them.
Ya, I just can’t get into the Nightkind in this series. I love the Wyr so much better. I’m looking forward to getting back to them.
I love the Wyr in this series. I’m re-reading some of the books. I just can’t get into the Vampies in this one, though I still enjoy the stories.
