For C.D. Hersh and Can’t Stop the Music (The Soul Mate Tree Book 2)
What is the sweetest thing someone has done for you?
We’ll let Catherine (the C in C.D. Hersh) answer this one, and she chooses her husband and co-author, Donald (The D in C.D. Hersh), as the someone. The sweetest thing Donald has done for her is gifting flowers. It’s not just the flowers, but the way he’s done it. He’s come home with an arm full of forsythia that he picked off the side of the road. Forsythia is one of Catherine’s favorite spring blooms. He made his construction buddies stop the truck while he picked flowers by the roadside. He took a lot of ribbing for that. Gotta love a man who’s willing to stand up to hoots of burly construction workers while he picks posies for the wife. Another time he had a dozen roses delivered to their restaurant table one at a time by the servers. While at a writing conference he had a giant bouquet of flowers delivered to Catherine on Sweetest Day. Flowers aren’t just for special occasion either. They show up at the house just because. That’s probably why the heroes gifting flowers to the heroines in our stories shows up so much. It’s a natural part of our life.
How would you spend ten thousand bucks?
We’d take loooong vacations to our favorite spots: Disney World and Colonial Williamsburg.
Where do you get your best ideas?
For us, ideas can come from anywhere. We do a lot of brainstorming while we’re traveling on the road. Our paranormal shape shifter Turning Stone Chronicle Series started with a road sign. We eavesdrop on conversations in restaurants. It’s amazing how a single scrap of conversation, that you know nothing about, can spark a story idea. We also like taking a plot idea, like the one the editors of Soul Mate Publishing sent out for The Soul Mate Tree Collective, and saying, “What if? How can we make this work?” When we were trying to figure out a plot and setting for our book in the Collective, Can’t Stop the Music, we saw a car commercial that had a grandmother telling her granddaughter she met grandpa under this tree. Or was it that tree? The whole family ended up hugging the tree. As they left, a Woodstock sign appeared in the road. It was from that commercial that we decided to set our book, and the magical Soul Mate tree at Woodstock. No idea is too small to explore as far as we are concerned.
What comes first, the plot or characters?
Neither. Usually the title comes first for us. Then the plot. The characters don’t get fleshed out until we know where the story is going.
What does your main character do that makes him/her special?
The hero and heroine in our rock ‘n rock genre book, Can’t Stop the Music are talented musicians who are passionate about music. Can’t Stop the Music is a story filled with music references. After all, it’s set in Woodstock 1969. The heroine, who wants to be a music teacher, loves all kinds of music. The hero is into Rock and Roll at Woodstock and later carries that love into his job, with nearly disastrous results.
Thanks for hosting us today! It’s been fun.

THE LEGEND OF THE SOUL MATE TREE

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jammed highways, food shortages, and rainstorms can’t stop the music when hippies Rose and Dakota hear the melody of love at the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. Or can it? When a jealous wannabe girlfriend and misunderstandings drive them apart, the couple loses track of one another in the massive crowd. Will they find each other again, or live lives of missed opportunities?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When they reached the makeshift bridge over the road, someone yelled, “Hey beautiful! You with the red hair.”
She looked around to see if there was anyone else with red hair. Then she glanced up and spotted two guys, one blond and the other dark-haired, leaning over the side of the bridge.
“Yeah, you,” the blond called out as he caught her gaze.
Willow halted beside her. “He’s cute. How about him?”
Rose looked away, her gaze landing on the other guy.
He jabbed his companion in the ribs. “Quit trying to pick up every girl you see.” Then he leaned farther over the rail. “Don’t pay any attention to him. He’s high.”
“So she’s not beautiful?” Willow yelled to the hippie.
She poked her friend. “Stop it, Willow, you’re making a scene.” In spite of her protest, her gaze remained on the dark-haired guy.
He rested his elbows on the rail and stared back at her. The intensity of his expression shot heat into her belly.
“I didn’t say that, just that she shouldn’t pay attention to him.” He flapped a hand at his blond buddy, then tapped his own chest with his thumb several times as if to say, ‘Choose me!’
Does he want me to pay attention to him? Her heart thumped in rhythm to his jabbing thumb.
“Take that one,” Willow whispered. “He’s the real cutie.”

Great concert tonight. I love live music.
Sarah L – we’re not much for large crowds but, we do like music. We are singing a duet for the special music next Sunday.
Good time at the swimming pool today. Do you swim?
Sarah L – we used to. We had a pool in the back yard of our prior house. Had to move because I became allergic to cut grass and there was a large lawn to mow.
Where do you go for date night?
Sarah L – usually dinner and a movie. Late getting to these because spent Friday and Saturday working in garden trimming and weeding. Wife’s favorite place.
Very good to be home and had a good night’s sleep in my own bed.

Don’t you have writing to do instead of answering silly questions?
Sarah L – yes but right now hard to do. Catherine is recovering from shoulder replacement surgery so not able to make much progress and engaging with someone who is hopefully interested in our writing is important.

Great time at the botanic gardens giving a tour to some people from Arizona.

How do you come up with your art work?
Sandra – our publisher has artists. We fill out answers to questions about what we have an idea of and then the covers go back and forth until everyone is happy. Thanks for stopping by.

Sarah L – we’ve had 75 today and forcasted for rest of week.
Happy Earth Day!
Sarah L – today was nice.
Love the two authors, as a couple. This one sounds good for my teen goddaughter. Thanks.

Happy Easter!
Sarah L – happy Easter.
Shopped at the thrift store today: 2 blouses and 1 pair of jeans for $12.

My crab apple tree is budding out.
Sarah L – our trees are blossoming.
OK, I’m running out of questions to ask.
Sarah L – LOL! It’s been fun conversing with you. If you think of any of any more contact us through our blog.
Sara L – yes we are. The weeds in the garden and pathways are growing up and until the Easter drama is finished we’ll not be able to get to them. How about you? Like spring?
Are you enjoying Spring where you live?
Sarah L – neither of us reads more than one book at a time.
Do you ever read more than one book at at time?
Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?
Teresa – read in the genre you want to write. Join a local critique group. Attend writer workshops to learn about the craft. Good luck with your writing.
Do you work on more than one book at a time?
Sarah L – we have but generally don’t. However we are always thinking about other stories.
Describe your perfect book hero or heroine?!?
Teresa – a hero capable of protecting the heroine in times of danger. Gentle enough to take care of her in times of physical need. He also needs a sense of humor and knows when to use those ability.
We had 80 degrees today and a Blizzard tomorrow. Do you get crazy weather where you live?
Sarah L – we’ve had all four seasons in one week in the past. Your snow is coming our way.
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Teresa – we both have written since we were teens but our co-operative writing began when we were asked to submit a interactive script for a Christmas presentation at our church. We discovered we liked writing together and made a good team.
What book couldn’t you put down?
Sarah L – Donald hasn’t had any recently but will stay up if at 95% or better when bed time comes. Catherine only remembers reading straight through was by Linda Bennett Pennell and was the second book in her series Miami Days Havana Nights.
