Mary Frances Talbot—Frankie—is a necromancer, probably. Hard to say since she never met her parents. She can see the dead, talk to the dead, and a few other things that aren’t strictly legal. It’s fine. No worries. As long as she doesn’t get caught.
The whole not getting caught thing was going well until Samuel Harrow blew back into town wearing a Savannah Police Department uniform. He might be a witch, but he hates magic. He’s not a fan of Frankie either. Which explains why he’s her ex.
When Frankie’s less than legal side gigs result in dead vampires, she knows she’s in trouble. Big trouble. And that’s before Harrow offers to help. With him waving a Get Out of Jail Free card in her face, Frankie doesn’t have much choice but to accept.
But that doesn’t mean she has to forgive. She’ll certainly never forget him breaking her heart or turning her over to the police or... Yeah. They were doomed from the start. Something tells her this investigation will be too.

What a deadly start to a new series by Hailey Edwards. Fair Market Value is book one and narrated by Candace Joice.
I’ve read Edwards Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy & The Potentate of Atlanta; which is a spin-off from the first, set in the same world. This new series, The Body Shop, is also in their world, but there’s no need to understand the previous series to enjoy this book.
We are treated to a murder mystery that surrounds our lead Frankie who just so happens to be the prime suspect. In comes Harrow, Frankie’s ex-boyfriend, who’s a cop and back in town to help take care of his sick uncle. We learn a little about Frankie and her siblings, Josie and Matty, past plus the break up with a surprise twist at the end.
I like that Frankie and her chosen siblings are orphans. Frankie doesn’t know who her parents are nor fully what her magic can do. Frankie has an idea, but she seems to be much more. I look forward to delving into this mystery.
In the romance department we do have two possible options. The ex-boyfriend and a new character that is an assistant to a god.
Fair Market Value brings all the ghostly fun. It’s full of mystery, gods, magic, and more. I enjoyed the story, mystery, and mythology. I look forward to the next installment. Fans of Urban Fantasy will enjoy it.
Audio: Joice is a new to me narrator. She does a lovely job with the character voices and narrates in Frankie’s POV. Each voice is distinctive and enjoyable to listen to. The pace is steady and the story moves along. We are pulled into the mystery and adventure as our characters try to figure things out and stop the killings. I liked the audio and recommend listing.

I’ve missed some of her older series, but this one is grabbing my attention first.
I’d recommend Edwards for those that enjoy Urban Fantasy. I’ve read a few of her different series and really enjoy. Thanks for visiting.
I’m seeing lots of good reviews for this one! I’ll have to check it out, and in audio for sure! Great review!
I was so happy to see my library had this in audio. I’m waiting for the next to come out and the library to get it. I like Edwards work. She writes enjoyable Urban Fantasy. Thanks for visiting Lisa.
I enjoyed this one. There is much yet to learn and happen; it’s only the beginning I think.
You are correct. Only the beginning. It was a nice start to this new series. I can’t wait for the next one in audio.
Great review! I agree 100%. I didn’t really think about it when I wrote my review, but I agree with your comment about them being orphans and not knowing the extent of their abilities! I look forward to book 2.
I found the orphan theme a good one. I can’t wait to see how their abilities develop especially our lead. This was a good start to a new series by Edwards. I can’t wait to see how things develop. Thanks for visiting!
