This is my first time read/listening to The Guild Codex: Warped series. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Guild Codex World and so, I’m excited to participate in this Read-Along.

I’ve joined the 2026 Guild Codex series author reading order Read-Along hosted by Books of My Heart. I haven’t tried the Warped series in the Guild Codex world and so, I wasn’t sure what I was going to experience.
Warping Minds & Other Misdemeanors is book one in The Guild Codex: Warped series by Annette Marie and co-written with Rob Jacobson and narrated by Iggy Toma.
Kit Morris is being held by the MPD on numerous charges. They have arrested his guild for illegal use of magic. We get the showdown for this battle in Three Mages and a Margarita.
Agent Lienna Shen, the MPD’s youngest Abjuration sorceress and Captain Blythe her superior, are interrogating Kit when all hell breaks loose in the prescient taking us on a whirlwind magical mystery adventure.
I enjoyed the direction the story took and how even though Kit wanted to get away he came back to help those he cares about and protect the magical world from someone who is truly bad.
I enjoyed Kit and found his backstory and intro to the magical world to be fascinating. He has a unique skill set and witty personality. I look forward to seeing more of his unique magical powers. I will say I love his movie loving personality. It was so fun having that pop out in the conversations.
Agent Lienna Shen is a magical prodigy working for the MPD and I liked her well enough. She is snarky, tenacious, and clever. We don’t learn a lot about her in this first installment.
It might delight fans of the Guild Codex World to know we cross paths with the members of the Crow and Hammer Guild.
Last, there is a possible romance, but that is not the main focus of this story.
Audio: This is my first taste of Iggy Toma as a narrator. I was captivated by the voice of Kit which fit the character perfectly. I didn’t care for the female voices. They all sounded to male and not feminine enough.
Warping Minds and Other Misdemeanors is very much an origin story for Kit and introduces him to a bigger magical world. It’s an action-packed magical adventure and can be read as a stand-alone or as part of the whole Guild Codex World.
