2025 End of Year Freak Out Tag

I originally saw this tag on Lili Lost in a Book and it was modified by Books, Bones & Buffy from the original Mid Year Freak Out Tag.  I like seeing the Freak Out Tags!  They are so much fun!  I did this tag back in 2024 and now I’ll do it again.

Best Books I’ve Read/Listened Since July:

Kiss of Steel, Sweep with Me, The Russian Cage, & Three Mages and a Margarita.

Best Sequels I’ve Read/Listened Since July:

I haven’t read any good Sequels this year.

New Releases I Haven’t Read/Listened but Want To:

What beautiful covers for these 2025 Releases. I can’t wait to dive in.

Biggest Disappointments:

Natural Mage and Seduced by The Werewolves where both DNF’s this year.  Neither worked for me and I wanted them to.

Biggest Surprises:

Kiss of Steel and Soulless are my biggest surprises this year. STEAMPUNCK is a new to me genre and I’m quite enjoying it. I love the added paranormal element to the genre as well as the historical romance aspect. Meshing this all together has been wonderful.

Favorite New Authors:

My favorite new author is Gail Carriger.  I’m surprisingly enjoying her Steampunk Historical Paranormal Romance in the Parasol Protectorate series and have added some of her other work to my TBR.

Books That Made Me Cry:

No sad cry worth books this year.

Books/Audios That Made Me Happy:

I always get a laugh and feel good after reading/listening to a Laurenston novel. One such novel is To Kill A Badger. I adore the crazy kooky antiques all the characters get into.

Most Anticipated Books for the 1st Half of 2026:

I’d love to know your answers or share your most anticipated books for 2026.

  1. I love that Gail Carriger pleasantly surprised you this year. I think my biggest surprise loves were Charlaine Harris’ older series and our readalong author/series- Annette Marie’s Guild Codex series.

  2. Where did the year go! I really like this idea of looking back at the year and the hits and misses it brought in books!
