After a deal with loan sharks sours, Darlene's brother is permanently transformed into a chipmunk. Not one to accept impossibility as a good excuse for failure, she's determined to rescue her brother and secure revenge against those who'd poisoned him with grade-a transformatives.
If she wants to perform a miracle, she'll need to join forces with a divine, but the man upstairs and his angels refuse to help.
None of the other so-called benevolent divines are willing to help her, either.
Running out of time and options, Darlene prepares to storm the gates of hell for her brother.
She never expected to fall in love with the Devil.
Warning: this novel contains a woman with a chip on her shoulder, humor, and one hell of a hero. Proceed with caution.

I picked this up for just $0.99 during a sale in August 2022 and dove into it shortly after.
A Chip on Her Shoulder is book eleven in the Magical Romantic Comedies by R.J. Blain. It can be read as a stand-alone.
With a witty lead and an intriguing setup, this story starts off good, despite some repetitive dialogue, but then it just becomes ok. Darlene is a hybrid shifter driven by two things: saving her brother—who was permanently transformed into a chipmunk by the Mafia—and getting her revenge. To succeed, she’ll have to rely on a Divine to undo the Mafia’s cruelty.
While the dialogue is witty, the banter and pranks start to feel a bit repetitive.
A Chip on Her Shoulder is a charming entry in this magical rom-com collection.

Sorry this one ended up a little repetitive for you. But you’re doing good with getting these cheaper books you’ve bought in the past read, something I need to do, lol. Great review!

So many cheep books unread. ^_^ Slowly working on it.
This sounds fun and I want to try the author. I think I have some sci-fi romances if I’m thinking of the right author.
I’ve enjoyed the few books I’ve read by R.J. Blain, though they aren’t necessarily stories I’d revisit. I believe her work is available on Kindle Unlimited if you have a subscription! I managed to snag a few of her titles on sale for $0.99. Thanks for checking out my review for A Chip on Her Shoulder—happy reading!
Nice review. I have not tried this author.
I’ve read a few of these out of order since they work well as stand-alones. They’re great if you’re looking for a lighthearted paranormal rom-com, and they’re available on Kindle Unlimited too!
