Unlucky Charm is book one in the Black Kat series by Kimberly Gordon.
Why I Dropped “Unlucky Charm” at 31%
I’m all for a strong female lead, but Kat misses the mark completely. Instead of being an empowering superhero, she comes across as an arrogant, overpowered caricature. The pacing is sluggish, but the real deal-breaker was the content itself. The book is unfortunately filled with victim-blaming and “diversity” that feels more like a collection of racist stereotypes. When a story’s attempt at world-building involves “exotic” tropes and offensive clichés, no amount of superhero action can save it.
Unlucky Charm unfortunately didn’t deliver the epic crime bust I was expecting. This was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.
