The brooding Fire Lord of Ashmoor Manor receives an adorable, curvy human as his ward!

I’m getting married today and I’m so freaking depressed. My bridal gown is exquisite. The ring is enormous. But my groom is evil personified and I’m being tricked into this doomed marriage. I’m seconds from breaking into a full-on ugly cry.

And right then, as if by magic, the church doors burst open. Women scream and children scramble as a huge satanic-looking alien stomps down the aisle, flicking his tail, flashing flames and wreaking chaos in his wake. He’s looking right at me.

“Charlotte Cruz?” the devil questions.

I give a jerky nod, shocked into silence.

The monster grunts in response, sweeps me off my feet and carries me away from the altar.

Also in this series: Monsters Love Curvy Girls (Books 1-4), His Human Neighbor, His Human Widow

I grabbed this freebie back in 2022 while going through a phase of devouring quick, fun sci-fi romances on Kindle Unlimited.

His Human Ward is book five in the Monsters Love Curvy Girls series by Michele Mills.

His Human Ward started off strong, but it fell flat as the story progressed. I struggled to connect with the characters—the heroine being only 19 made it hard for me to root for the romance, and their relationship dynamic felt a bit surface-level. While I usually love the sexy devil heroes in Michele Mills’ books, this installment felt overly repetitive, and the dialogue was more cringey than charming.

Overall, it’s an okay read if you want something super fast, fluffy, and easy, but it wasn’t a standout for me.
