Down in Atlanta, tempers – and temperatures – are about to flare…

As a mercenary who cleans up after magic gone wrong, Kate Daniels has seen her share of occupational hazards. Normally, waves of paranormal energy ebb and flow across Atlanta like a tide. But once every seven years, a flare comes, a time when magic runs rampant. Now Kate’s going to have to deal with problems on a much bigger scale: a divine one.

When Kate sets out to retrieve a set of stolen maps for the Pack, Atlanta’s paramilitary clan of shapeshifters, she quickly realizes much more at stake. During a flare, gods and goddesses can manifest – and battle for power. The stolen maps are only the opening gambit in an epic tug-of-war between two gods hoping for rebirth. And if Kate can’t stop the cataclysmic showdown, the city may not survive…

(No Spoilers)

Magic Burns is the second book in the Kate Daniels series and it was a vast improvement from the first book, Magic Bites. This time there was absolutely no confusion on how the world worked. Magic and Tech fluctuate with one another to make a very cool backdrop to an alternate Atlanta. But for me, the best parts of this book are the relationships Kate makes.

Outstanding! Great series! Must read! I am enjoying “Kate Daniels” series. In “Magic Burns” you get non-stop Action, Adventure, and growth in characters and relationships.

My god Kate is such a great character. I just love kick ass chicks who don’t take crap or let people just walk all over them. Kate is confident, skilled, funny, occasionally lonely, and caring. I love learning about her and seeing the relationship between Curran and her grow into something more. You can tell they will end up together somewhere down the line.

About Ilona Andrews

“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

They have co-authored several bestselling series, including the #1 NYT bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels, rustic fantasy of the Edge, paranormal romance of Hidden Legacy, and Innkeeper Chronicles, which they post as a free weekly serial. 1. Oh no! I h8 slumps. It’s so hard to find something, even old favorites can be difficult. Hope you can enjoy book one and the rest of the series once your slump is over. I will say book one is good but not great. Their is just so much for the Andrews team to put into that first book. It does get better! Well it did for me ^_^

  2. I started book 1 early this week. Alas I’m in a fantasy slump! I know it’s good, I just can’t stick to it long enough so I put it on hold.

  3. Yep, the Andrews team had a lot to get across in book one and it usually is that way with the first book for any series. I really try to give a book series a two or three book chance. As for the Kate Daniels books, well I’m a FAN. I go all girly when I hear anything about the Andrews team and books coming out. I will always re-read this series, it’s just that great! I’m glad you moved on too. It’s such an Outstanding series. I can’t fan girl rave enough about it! ^_^
