Shadowvale isn’t your typical small town America. The sun never shines, the gates decide who enters, magic abounds, and every resident bears some kind of curse.

Vampire Constantin Thibodeaux was cured of his sun "allergy" when he moved to Shadowvale. Now he runs the local bookstore, which is really just a sideline to filling his own library. Books, unlike people, are far more forgiving of his prickly nature. But he doesn’t care if people don’t like him. He is who he is. And he’s happy. Well, he’s content. Okay, he’s…fine.

Sprite and all around party girl Andromeda Merriweather loves her carefree life - or at least she did until her sister cursed her into a magical time out. Thankfully, she’s just been set free by a totally hot, but kind of grumpy vampire. Too bad this handsome grouch now holds the key to her freedom, something she’ll only get if he agrees to abide by the rules of her curse.

Constantin isn’t interested in the terms and conditions Andromeda gives him, until he needs her to be his temporary girlfriend to shut his brother up. Then, Constantin agrees. But what happens after a surprisingly fun evening creates brand new problems for both of them. Sure, two opposites can attract, but will that attraction last? Or are they both too cursed to give love a chance?

The Vampire’s Cursed Kiss is book two in the Shadowvale series by Kristen Painter and narrated by B.J. Harrison.

I’m not WOW’d by the series, but their is something about the Shadowvale series that keeps me coming back. I think it has to do with how light and easy going the story’s are. It’s a predictable read, but also has some sweet fun moments. I really enjoy the town of Shadowvale and how it came to be.

Constantin, is a vampire who owns a bookstore in town. He’s been burned by love before and so he’s given up on romance. Andromeda is a sprite with a free spirt. She’s found herself in a predicament and the only way out is to get Constantine to fall in love with her.

As things go the romance is predictable. We have our up’s and down’s, but in the end we get our HEA. I enjoyed Constantin’s family and Andromeda’s self assured attitude. Constantine was a sweet vampire until he had his little temper tantrum, then I wasn’t a big fan of him, but in the end it works out.

The author has a knack for creating quirky paranormal character’s and the town is interesting in its make up of citizens. The world-building is well done and the flow of the story is nice.

Audio: B.J. Harrison for some reason didn’t hit it off with me like the first book. He can do voices, but some just didn’t work for me in The Vampire’s Cursed Kiss. Manly the female voices didn’t sound feminine enough. He does bring out the personalties of the characters and keeps the story flowing along. I liked the audiobook.

The Vampire’s Cursed Kiss can be read/listened to as a stand-alone. It’s a light listen and enjoyable. I don’t think I’d do this series any other way, but in audio.

Rated: 3 Stars

  1. I haven’t read a KP book in ages. I have series like you describe – not great, but can’t walk away. I hope you continue to enjoy it.
