What Inspired Me to Write MAGIC UNLEASHED

Hi! I’m USA Today Bestselling Author Delta James. I write steamy paranormal and contemporary romantic suspense. I was asked how I came to write MAGIC UNLEASHED. In the paranormal genre I am known primarily for my shifter books. So what prompted me to write my first demon-hunting faery? Simple—a picture I saw on social media.

I saw the picture on the left and couldn’t get it out of my mind. I talked with Renee Brooks, who handles ALL of my marketing, what she thought about the picture and about creating a book or series to go with it. She loved it too and thus Phoenix Duvall of MAGIC UNLEASHED was born.

As I started to figure out a concept, I sent the picture to my cover designer, Dar Albert of www.wickedsmartdesigns.com and she created the cover. Using both as inspiration, I created Phoenix and Griff’s story.

Knowing this would be my first faery story, I decided to use a dragon-shifter for her mate and set it in a city I know and love, New Orleans. Once I had the picture and the cover, the story just seemed to write itself.

As I was writing MAGIC UNLEASHED I realized I wanted to create a series for Phoenix and her sisters: Geneva, Catalina and Savannah. I’ve had so much fun writing those, I’ve decided to expand the series outside the four Duvall sisters and have several more books planned. This is kind of typical of me. I will write what I think is a standalone or the first in trilogy only to have it take off and inspire far more books than I ever planned.
