Top 10 New-To-Me (Genres, Authors, Series) 2025

The Yearly Top 10 is hosted by Books of My Heart.

For this challenge I picked New-To-Me Genres, Authors, and/or Series that I tried.

This was a New-To-Me author/series! Assistant To The Villain is a delightfully witty and fun read from the sarcastic female lead to the flabbergasted villain. I had fun with the Assistant to the Villain and with that ending I’m looking forward to picking up the next book and reading on. Read my full review here.

This was a New-To-Me author/series/genre (Steampunk)! I finally dived into the Steampunk genre and it was FABULOUS! This is my first taste of Bea McMaster and narrator Alison Larkin. The author did a wonderful job portraying the world that I felt like I was physically in this Victorian world with these cool steampunk gadgets. Read my full review here.

This was a New-To-Me series! Hailey Edwards is a wonderful Urban Fantasy author. I enjoy her novels. The storyline is interesting and I like the idea of bad-ass geriatric witches. It’s a fun start to the series featuring Ellie Gleason, a retired witch. Being retired isn’t as exciting as the good old days in the WitchLight Hub. Read my full revies on all 3 stories in the Yard Birds series here.

This was a New-To-Me series/author/genre (Steampunk)! I’m not big on picking up novels in the Historical genre, but I am glad I did. It’s remarkably good and Emily Gray portrayed the pace, storyline and characters quite well. I’m glad I did the audio version and I plan to listen on in the Parasol Protectorate series. Read my full review here.

This was a New-To-Me series/genre (crime thriller)! I devoured this audiobook that is full of Magic, Murder, and a Hotter than Hot Ogre King! Veiled Justice is a fast-paced magical listen. You quickly come to love all the characters and I can’t wait to dive into book two, Mystic Justice. Read my full review here.

This was a New-To-Me author/series! It’s a cozy urban fantasy filled with mystery and humor. Witchwood was entertaining. I was surprised at the double cross; because I didn’t see it coming. The story wraps up nicely and we do get hints that more trouble is on the horizon. I’m looking forward to listening on in the series. Read my full review here.

This was a New-To-Me author/series! It’s a sweet heart-warming standalone cozy fantasy about found family, friendship and magic. The Teller of Small Fortunes shows us the hardships of finding oneself, belonging and racial identity through the character Tao. It’s a warm, beautiful, and ultimately comforting debut fantasy. 1. It’s something new I discovered this year. I’ve seen it around, but had been on the fence about diving in. I’m glad I picked out these PNR Steampunk titles to give it a go. Thanks Olivia for visiting and hope you enjoy. Happy Reading!

  1. Great list! I really enjoyed The Teller of Small Fortunes as well. I just bought another book by the same author that I hope to read soon.

    1. Yes Julie Leong as has The Keeper of Magical Things which I’ve seen reviews for this year (2025). I might give it a go. I’ve heard good things about it. It’s just in a genre I haven’t’ read; LGBT. Not sure if I’m ready to dive into that genre, yet. Thanks Lola for visiting. Happy Reading!

    1. I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy Steampunk, but the books I picked out worked for me. It’s an interesting genre. I like New To Me. It’s interesting and fun to discover new things.
Thanks for visiting Lisa and Happy New Year!
