Book Blogger Hop: Passing the Pages – Who Gets Your Books?

Welcome to another week of the Book Blogger Hop, hosted by the wonderful Coffee Addicted Writer.  If you’re new here, this weekly event kicks off every Friday and runs through the following Thursday.  It’s all about bringing our community together through a fun, bookish prompt.  It’s a fantastic way to discover new titles, meet fellow bibliophiles, and grow your own circle of readers!  Check out the 2026 Prompts to see what else is in store for the year!

This weeks prompt March 6th – If you had to, would you pass your book collection on to someone special? If not, what would you prefer your family or friends do with your books after you’re gone? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee-Addicted Writer)

My Answer: My book collection is filled with signed copies and rare special editions, so I’ve already made arrangements for them in my will. They are currently set to be left to my son, with the provision that anything he doesn’t wish to keep be donated to our local library. While no one in my family is currently into the same genres I am, I’m still hoping that one day I’ll find a fellow book-lover to pass them on to. Until then, I’m happy knowing they’ll either stay with my family or support my community library.

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Do you have a plan for your “bookish estate,” or are you hoping to pass them on to a fellow reader? Leave a comment below and let’s chat!

  1. This is something I have thought about. Some of them, I would leave to specific family or friends. Others would be donated to our local library.

  2. I was actually thinking about that the other day as I thought about moving and having to pack up all my books that I can’t seem to bear to get rid of. I have no idea who would take mine. I would hope my family would donate to a library, or I’d be okay I guess if they took them to Half Price books to see if they could get any money. But depending on which family, I have a feeling they might just get thrown away or taken to Goodwill.

    1. It truly breaks my heart to think of books being thrown away. For those of us who treasure our collections, deciding their future is such a meaningful gesture. Since books are the only thing I truly collect, it’s a topic that’s stayed on my mind. I really appreciate you stopping by and sharing your perspective on ‘passing the pages,’ Lisa!

  3. Wow! That’s great. I have lots of signed books, but they are paperbacks and nothing super noteworthy. I would want them to go to readers and/or the library.

  4. I would hope that my family would donate them to the library. This weeks question is a good one to ponder on and I should probably ask them their thoughts on my overload of books. Have a good weekend!

  5. I think my younger sister may want some of my books. If not, I’d rather they be donated to a library, a community organization, or passed along to other readers who will actually open them.Happy Reading!

    1. Thanks for sharing your plan, Kat! It really is a thought-provoking question. Like you, I just want my books to end up in the hands of someone who will truly love them and give those pages the attention they deserve. Happy Reading!

  6. I guess I’m just going to let my children deal with all my books once I’m not here anymore. I really haven’t given it that much thought. And then I have an awful lot of electronic books. It’s a good question, actually.

    1. I’ve been thinking a lot about my physical books since that’s my primary collection. Unlike others who might go for art or decor, books are my world. It’s a fascinating question to consider—thanks for sharing your thoughts!
