We are at war. The interdimensional invasion brought us unimaginable suffering, but it also awoke talents slumbering deep within us, a means to repel and destroy our enemy. Every day new gates open, leading to breaches filled with monsters and valuable resources. If you are a Talent, your country needs you. The world needs you. Be the hero you were born to be.
Adaline is a Talent. Ten years ago, she had a happy marriage and a job she loved. The invasion shattered both. Now she works for the government, searching the breaches for magic metals and medicine to help Earth repel an interdimensional enemy. Two kids, one cat, bills, benefits, mortgage and school tuition...Risking her life became routine.
She had gone into the dimensional gates hundreds of times. She was always well protected. This time everything goes wrong. Now Ada is trapped in the labyrinth of alien caves unlike any other. Her only companion is a scared German Shepherd named Bear. Together they must uncover the breach's secrets and escape, because Ada promised her children that she will come home.
The future of humanity depends on it.

The Inheritance is book one in the Breach Wars by Ilona Andrews and narrated by Hillary Huber and James Konicek.
Although I purchased the paperback, I eagerly waited for the audiobook release to dive into this story. As a longtime admirer of Ilona Andrews, I found their creativity and storytelling to be as majestic as ever.
The Inheritance begins with a concise primer on a world transformed a decade ago by the appearance of mysterious portals and the rise of ‘talents’—humans gifted with extraordinary powers. The authors do a masterful job of world-building; their opening letter was a charming touch that made me appreciate them even more.
The narrative primarily follows Ada, but the simultaneous perspective of Elias, a team commander on the outside, adds a gripping layer to the story. Both points of view kept me captivated as Ada navigated a gate fraught with danger and unexpected twists. For die-hard fans, the ‘Breach Wars’ universe is a perfect blend of fantasy and science fiction, complete with delightful crossovers and Easter eggs.
Audio: The audiobook, narrated by Hilary Huber and James Konicek, was absolutely worth the wait. Their performances brought the characters and the world to life, truly enhancing the entire experience
I was absolutely hooked! I flew through the audiobook in just a day and a half because I simply couldn’t bring myself to hit pause. It’s that captivating.

I bought the paperback, e-copy and audiobook! I read the e-copy when it first came out but want to listen to the audio soon! Glad to hear you loved it, too!
I’m right there with you! I grabbed the paperback and audiobook on release day, too—though I’m holding out for a sale before I snag the ebook. The audio was such a blast; I really hope this is just the beginning and we get at least one more book in the series!”
I’m glad it was a good one for you.
It really was! Ilona Andrews is always a win for me. I just know that whenever I pick up one of their books, I’m in for a truly glorious adventure!
I have it and can’t believe I haven’t read it yet. Wonderful to see your high rating. I hope to read it sooner than later.
I’m glad I dove in! I’m currently suffering from a total Ilona Andrews hangover. Their writing is always so incredible that it makes it impossible to find a follow-up book that measures up! Hope you enjoy!
