Long have we been alone.
Without brides, without females to warm us during the long nights. Without sweet mates. But we see them, from afar, brides that could be ours. Kept away from us by walls and weapons.
Females we long for greatly.
Obsessively.
Human females.
And the one with red hair? I want her. I saw her first. I will fight to the death for her. She is MINE.
So, we’ll come together and make an exchange with their men that will benefit us all.
After that? To the winner goes the spoils… Let the hunt begin.
But the red-headed female is MINE.
--- Viper is the first book in a series of Bride Hunting Aliens. With the charm of a snake, and the wiles of a devil, these males will do anything, and I mean anything, for their females.

I read this on Kindle Unlimited back in 2022.
Viper is book one in the Naga Brides series by Naomi Lucas.
The story features a compelling post-apocalyptic setting where humanity has fallen and ‘snake-men’ (Naga) have risen. These males are portrayed as fiercely protective and consumed by an all-encompassing drive to find a female partner.
I really enjoyed the world-building and the suspenseful setup, but the characters didn’t quite land for me. There’s a solid plot beyond the ‘Naga seeking females’ trope, but the romance felt like it was missing a spark. While the sex scenes are definitely ‘hawt,’ they felt more like animalistic rutting than a passionate connection. The hero gave off major ‘dumb jock’ vibes, and I was disappointed that Gemma started off so fierce and independent only to become submissive without much of a fight.
Viper is an intense, high-heat read that kept me engaged. I’m intrigued enough to continue reading, but it isn’t a story I see myself revisiting in the future.

Too bad the lack of romance development was the opposite of the background and world. Otherwise, it does sound interesting.
I’ve read the first three books. The world-building is interesting for a monster romance, but the story overall feels just okay to me. Thanks for visiting the blog, Sophia!
