Book Blogger Hop: My Biggest Bookish Pet Peeve of the Book Community 🖤

Welcome to another week of the Book Blogger Hop, hosted by the wonderful Coffee Addicted Writer.  If you’re new here, this weekly event kicks off every Friday and runs through the following Thursday.  It’s all about bringing our community together through a fun, bookish prompt.  It’s a fantastic way to discover new titles, meet fellow bibliophiles, and grow your own circle of readers!  Check out the 2026 Prompts to see what else is in store for the year!

This weeks prompt: July 10th – What’s your biggest pet peeve about the book community?

My Answer: My biggest pet peeve in the book community has to be the rise of toxic call-out culture. The level of online harassment can feel incredibly overwhelming. It often seems like we struggle to hold space for differing opinions, and constructive conversations which all too quickly devolves into unnecessary hostility.

Now it’s your turn! What’s your biggest book community pet peeve? Leave a comment below and let’s swap thoughts!

  1. Agreed! There is so much out there that is hateful. I think it has even ruined some in person book events. I missed the last 2 Book Bonanzas, couldn’t get tickets, but from what I hear, the people attending at least the very last one, were not the normal book people I’m used to hanging out with. They weren’t nice and excited to be with other book people, they were rude and very insistent on getting in lines first or keeping others from getting to do things. It’s sad.

    1. I completely agree, Lisa. It’s really heartbreaking to see that negativity spilling over into real-world events now, too. It’s incredibly sad when people lose sight of why we’re all here—for the love of books and community. Thanks so much for visiting and sharing your perspective! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  2. Unfortunately, it’s not just among the readers… it’s everywhere, which is why I’m pretty much stopped using social media. I do love my cat videos on IG, though! I don’t like when non-romance readers trash the genre. UGH!

    1. You’re so right, social media has made harassment way too easy everywhere, not just in the book community. Cat videos are cute, but I’m definitely a Corgi video person! (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) I also totally agree—I hate when non-romance readers trash the genre. Thanks for stopping by and sharing, Jen. Have a wonderful weekend!
