The Ultimate Book Tag Part 2

The Ultimate Book Tag originally made its rounds over on YouTube! While I’m not entirely sure who first created it—and since I don’t have a channel of my own—I couldn’t resist bringing the fun over to the blog. Because there are 25 questions in total, I’m tackling this tag in two parts. Welcome to part two! If you missed part one, you can check it out here! Now, let’s dive right back into the questions.

12. When did you get into reading?

You could say I really dove into reading back in 2013, thanks to my husband’s aunt who introduced me to Jeaniene Frost and her Night Huntress series. Everything spiraled out of control from there! I quickly dove headfirst into J.R. Ward, Terry Spear, Gena Showalter, Lynsay Sands, Patricia Briggs, G.A. Aiken (aka Shelly Laurenston), and many more.

 

13. What is your favorite classic book?

Looking back through my reading history, I haven’t actually logged any traditional historical “classics” (like Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, or Mary Shelley). My shelves are pretty much dedicated to my absolute favorite genres: Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Sci-Fi Romance, and Cozy Mysteries!

 

14. In school what was your best subject?

Oh, that would easily be choir and drama. I was never great at the academic stuff—math, English, history, and science were definitely not my strong suits!

 

15. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated…what would you do?

I’d absolutely say thank you and not let on that I didn’t like it! Then, I’d quietly donate it to my local library so someone else could give it a try.

 

16. What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?

Oh, looking through my past reads, I’d absolutely say The Guild Codex: Spellbound series by Annette Marie. It has such a fun mix of both worlds:

• The Harry Potter Vibe: Think a hidden, secret society of magic right in plain sight—except instead of Hogwarts, the main hub is a hidden magic guild/pub. It gives you that exact same wonderful, tight-knit found family dynamic and a deeply detailed progressive magic system.

• The Hunger Games Vibe: The protagonist, Tori, is a total human with absolutely zero magic, completely thrown into a dangerous supernatural world. Just like Katniss, she has to rely 100% on her sharp wit, stubborn survival instincts, and sheer grit to outsmart crazy powerful opponents just to survive!

 

17. What is a bad habit you always do while blogging?

I can’t think of anything.

 

18. What is your favorite word?

I don’t have one.

 

19. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?

I’d have to say a dork! Based on the definition, I’m definitely more quirky and socially awkward.

 

20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?

Vampires! I love me some biting, sexy scenes in my paranormal romance reads. There is just something so sexy about dark, brooding, mysterious heroes with fangs!

 

21. Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?

Oh, this one is a tough choice! But if I have to pick, I’m definitely going with Shapeshifters. There’s honestly nothing quite like a strong, sexy shifter Alpha hero! If you’re looking for a fantastic shapeshifter series to dive into, I highly recommend the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh. There are so many great shifters to pick from, plus some seriously unique characters.

 

22. Spirits or Werewolves? Why?

Werewolves all the way! I love me a strong wolf. Hands down, my favorite werewolf series has to be the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs.

• Why you’ll love it: Mercy is actually a coyote shifter who was raised by werewolves, and now she lives next door to an Alpha! It is such a perfect urban fantasy. The pack politics are amazing, the hero is protective but totally respects her boundaries, and Mercy is a smart, gritty heroine who never plays the damsel in distress!

 

23. Zombies or Vampires?

I actually haven’t read any zombie novels, so this one easily goes to Vampires! (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

 

24. Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?

Ugh, I despise love triangles. I do my best to completely avoid romance novels that feature them, so I am choosing the forbidden love trope all day long! If you want an amazing recommendation, I have to go with the Hidden Legacy series (The Nevada Baylor Trilogy) by Ilona Andrews based on my recent listens this year.

I actually re-listened to the GraphicAudio editions of Burn for Me, White Hot and Wildfire this spring, and oh my gosh, the tension is unmatched. The dynamic between Nevada Baylor and Connor “Mad” Rogan has the perfect undercurrent of forbidden temptation. She’s a low-level private investigator trying to keep her family business afloat, and he’s an insanely powerful, high-Prime tier mage. They come from two completely different worlds, and watching them navigate elite magical politics while fighting their attraction is just incredible!

25. Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?

Honestly, I love both! Each has elements that I truly enjoy, but I definitely lean towards action-packed reads with some great love scenes mixed in.
