I enjoy Laurenston and the funny crazy silly humor she writes.
Breaking Badger was another fun, quirky, and humorous read. It has lots of humorous lines, a slight romance, and lots of crazy fun characters to enjoy, but it’s also a bit chaotic, convoluted, and overwhelming.
This is the first book that doesn’t follow one of the McGilligan sisters. It’s about Mads who is part honey badger and part hyena. She is also Max’s basketball teammate and friend. Finn Malone is a Siberian Tiger and he and is bothers want to find out who killed their father.
The issues I had with this story is that there where too many side stories going on which took away from the romance of Mads and Finn. I didn’t fully feel their romance. It was lacking; because of everything going on.
I was also a bit overwhelmed with all the characters in the story. The Pride series (spinoff) characters pop up in this one and I love that series, but as I said too many characters made it confusing, overwhelming, and took away from the main couple. I like spending time with previous and past characters, but they shouldn’t be the main topic. I wouldn’t pick this novel up on it’s own. You need to start the series from the beginning. It can be a bit overpowering if you haven’t read Laurenston before.
The Malone family were great, but the storylines for them aren’t completed. We don’t know what happened to their father and we never figured out why someone wanted to kill the brothers and honey badgers.
I did enjoy this novel. It wasn’t my favorite in the series, but still enjoyable. I like revisit this world and Laurenston is one of my go-to authors when I need a laugh.
Narration: Charlotte Kane does a wonderful job with all the voices. There’s a lot of characters in Breaking Badger, yet Kane gives them each their own voice. As always I enjoy listening to Laurenston’s work and find that the humor comes out great. I enjoyed the audio and recommend listing.

“I was also a bit overwhelmed with all the characters in the story.” This was my issue from the start. Unfortunately, I didn’t read the Pride series. I got through the first Badger book and liked it, but by the second book, I was overwhelmed by the number of characters taking center stage. I will have to try the Pride series first and then give this one another go.
Ya, the author brings a lot of characters from the Pride series into the Honey Badger Chronicles. The pop in and out. It becomes a bit overwhelm even for those that have read the series. I have fun with both series and like the humor, but maybe a bit less on the extra characters would help. The first book is still my favorite in this series. The are enjoyable. Thanks for visiting.

I really want to read this author at some point but haven’t gotten there yet. PNR can be tricky for me but her books seem to have some humor I think I would like.
