Three months ago, I landed a job as a bartender. But not at a bar—at a guild. Yeah, the magic kind.

I'm not a badass mage like my three smokin' hot best friends. I'm not a sorcerer or an alchemist, or even a wussy witch. I'm just a human, slinging drinks like a pro and keeping my non-magical nose out of mythic business. Seriously, I know my limits.

So why am I currently standing in a black-magic ritual circle across from a fae lord?

Somewhere behind me, my three mage friends are battling for their lives. Somewhere near my feet is the rogue witch I just knocked out with a stolen spell. And I have about five seconds to convince this very angry sea god not to shmoosh me like a bug.

I'm pretty sure this wasn't part of the job description.

Two Witches and a Whiskey by Annette Marie

Two Witches and a Whiskey is book three in The Guild Codex: Spellbound series by Annette Marie and narrated by Cris Dukehart. It’s an entertaining listen full of action and trouble.

Tori ends up moving into her own place. The authorities start sniffing around the Guild and so, Tori is told to stay away. Naturally she ends up getting involved in a dangerous ritual and finds herself in a pickle. She struggles in this installment; in that she’s afraid of losing her job, her friends, and her little place in the magical world. I ended up get frustrated with Torri in this book; because some of her decisions lacked the maturity that she has shown in previous books. She was also kind of whiny in this one.

As for a romance I’m a bit lost and not sure where its going.

We are treated too Kai and we get loads of background information on the lightning mage and his family. The adventure and magic are out of this world. What really makes this series is all the characters and they’re bonds that have formed. We are also treated to a plethora of magical creatures. I really enjoy all the new creatures that we meet.

Audio: The audio narration is fantastic! I love how the narrator pulls me into the story that I become engrossed, swept away into the magic, the adventure and whatever mayhem is happening. I highly recommend the audiobooks for this series.

Two Witches and a Whiskey ups the stacks and brings us loads of fast-paced action.

Rated: 3.5 Stars

About Cris Dukehart

My name is Cris Dukehart. I am an Audie Nominee and Earphones Award Winning audiobook narrator and voiceover.

I’ve been told I approach the world with the quick witted humor of Mrs. Maisel and the spirit of a Southern Magnolia (which seems to me like a pretty mighty leap but sure felt good to hear and also seemed like the sort of thing a gal might want to include in her bio).

I’ve narrated over 400 books, across genres, from quirky memoirs, southern women’s fiction, and young adult titles to new adult urban fantasy and female-driven mysteries and I love being able to immerse myself in tales that include a rich array of characters of all ages and into stories that make a body believe in just a little bit of magic.

I have a natural and easy Mid-Atlantic dialect but also confidently perform the dialects from my southern upbringing (North Carolina, Virgnia, and West Virginia) as well as those I’ve picked up just meeting folks from my travels across the US and abroad.

I divide my time between my Mountain House, a Mid Century home perched on a mountain over looking the Caribbean, and an 1870 Southern Victorian riverfront home.

Both homes are PROJECTS (with a capital P) and need more than a little love, but along with my ridiculous sooper pooch, Bruce Ed, a menagerie of strays, a cast of family, friends, and characters that could just as well have stepped right off the pages of the books I read, a silly lot of DIY elbow grease, and you too… if you hang around here long enough… I’m pretty sure there’s a happily ever after waiting for all of us at the end.

About Annette Marie

Annette Marie is the best-selling author of The Guild Codex, an expansive collection of interwoven urban fantasy series ranging from thrilling adventure to hilarious hijinks to heartrending romance. Her other works include YA urban fantasy series Steel & Stone, its prequel trilogy Spell Weaver, and romantic fantasy trilogy Red Winter.

Her first love is fantasy, while fast-paced adventures and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She lives in the frozen winter wasteland of Alberta, Canada (okay, it’s not quite that bad) with her husband and their furry minion of darkness—sorry, cat—Caesar. When not writing, she can be found elbow-deep in one art project or another while blissfully ignoring all adult responsibilities.

  1. I liked this one more than you did. But I don’t mind the romance being background to the action / plot. Although I was a little afraid early in the series this would be reverse harem which I don’t read.

    1. I still haven’t figured out the romance angle in this series, but I’ve only listened unto book 4, so far. Need to return. Thanks for visiting!
