Quitting her husband's house and moving back in with her horrible family, Lady Maccon becomes the scandal of the London season in the third book of the NYT bestselling Parasol Protectorate series.

Queen Victoria dismisses her from the Shadow Council, and the only person who can explain anything, Lord Akeldama, unexpectedly leaves town. To top it all off, Alexia is attacked by homicidal mechanical ladybugs, indicating, as only ladybugs can, the fact that all of London's vampires are now very much interested in seeing Alexia quite thoroughly dead.

While Lord Maccon elects to get progressively more inebriated and Professor Lyall desperately tries to hold the Woolsey werewolf pack together, Alexia flees England for Italy in search of the mysterious Templars. Only they know enough about the preternatural to explain her increasingly inconvenient condition, but they may be worse than the vampires -- and they're armed with pesto.

Blameless is the third book of the Parasol Protectorate series: a comedy of manners set in Victorian London, full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking.

Also in this series: Soulless, Changeless

Blameless is book three in the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger and narrated by Emily Gray.

Directly following the events of Changeless, this story dials back the romance to focus squarely on the plot and the enigmatic nature of the Soulless. Forced to return home, Alexia struggles to understand her condition. Her quest for answers leads her far beyond England to Italy, where she seeks the mysterious Templars. However, these ancient guardians have their own, potentially dangerous, plans for a woman Soulless.

Fierce and untamed, Alexia must protect herself and delve into the mystery surrounding her baby inconvenience. She’s not particularly happy nor sad about it, just surprised and never thought it would happen. With her husband’s abandonment and the protections she used to have gone, she faces immediate and overwhelming perils both mortal and supernatural. With her allies unable or unwilling to help she must seek out a new, potentially dangerous, source of aid.

Professor Lyall truly steps into the spotlight in this volume. The story offers a deeper look into his critical, often underappreciated, role as the Pack’s Beta, highlighting his immense efforts to safeguard both the Pack and England.

Audio: I remain utterly captivated by the audiobook. Narrator Emily Gray masterfully brings the proper, eloquent Steampunk world, history, and distinctly English atmosphere to life. Her appealing vocal performance perfectly suits each character, drawing me deeply into this world for a truly unique adventure.

Blameless utilizes a shifting perspective between Alexia and Professor Lyall. It’s a wonderfully steampunk novel and a fantastic addition to the Parasol Protectorate series. I look forward to the next installment.

About Emily Gray

Actress Emily Gray grew up in a military family moving to locations around England. She remembers mimicking the regional accents from each locale as a way to blend in with new friends. Stories either invented by her mother or read aloud as a family were always part of her life. Emily could easily relate to Nancy Springer’s ROWAN HOOD, daughter of Robin Hood.

Emily’s first audiobook, MASQUERADE by Walter Satterthwait, came about in 2001 when her husband Matthew was a sound engineer at Recorded Books studios in New York. Lately, we’ve heard Emily bring alive the adventures of Becky Bloomwood in Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic series and her work in SOMETHING ROTTEN by Jasper Fforde.

Emily and her husband started the Classics Acting Company in Dallas where she’s appearing in “The Cherry Orchard.”

About Gail Carriger

Gail Carriger writes comedies of manners mixed with paranormal romance (and the sexy San Andreas Shifter series as G L Carriger). Her books include the Parasol Protectorate and the Finishing School series. She is published in many languages and has over a dozen NYT bestsellers. She was once an archaeologist and is fond of shoes, octopuses, and tea.
