Southern belle Verity Long is back in business - as a ghost hunter. Now all she has to do is visit the town's creepiest mansion and exorcise a family of vengeful spirits. Piece of cake. After all, ghosts love her and need her...that is until she meets the ghosts of Rock Fall mansion. They'll do anything to keep their murderous secrets hidden within the cliffside fortress - even if that means getting rid of one meddling ghost hunter.

With the entire town skeptical and scrutinizing her every move, Verity struggles to uncover the century-old mystery behind the house. And when she stumbles upon a very fresh, very dead body, she realizes there's more to it than she ever imagined. With the help of her sexy cop boyfriend, Ellis, and her ghostly gangster sidekick, Frankie, she braves the overgrown gardens, the desolate family cemetery, and the haunted mansion that have been locked away for generations. But can Verity unearth the truth before she's the next one buried on the deadly grounds?

Also in this series: Southern Spirits, A Ghostly Gift , The Skeleton in the Closet, Ghost of a Chance, The Haunted Heist

Deader Homes and Gardens is book four in Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries Series by Angie Fox and narrated by Tavia Gilbert.

The whimsical covers and killer titles for this series catch my eye. They scream cozy mysteries with a killer sense of humor.

Verity is a hoot. Headstrong, determined, confident and has gumption. She has decided to make a go at being a ghost hunter with her gangster sidekick ghost Frankie. These two make a fun team that bring laughs, along with her police officer boyfriend Elise, who adds that solid grounding that Verity needs; otherwise she gets in over her head.

In spite of all the family drama and financial woe’s, Verity keeps plugging away. In this installment Verity gets a call from the only living owner of the Treadwell Mansion who is asking for help. We are treated to a creepy mansion, vengeful spirit, a family mystery, an Egyptian curse and more…. Will Verity survive the evil lurking in the Treadwell Mansion? You’ll just have to read or listen to find out!

Audio: I enjoy the audiobooks for this series. They are a lot of fun! Gilbert moves the story along nicely. Her voices for all the characters old and new add to the charm of listening. You really do get the small-town southern charm coming through. Then add in all the ghosts from different eras and you’ve got a great cozy mystery. Gilbert nails the humor and has you waiting on bated breath at the scary parts.

Deader Homes and Gardens is another thrilling cozy mystery in The Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries Series. Yes, you should read or listen to the series in order, but you can pick this one out of order; though I feel the series is better in order.
