I awoke dead. It was a real bummer. Being covered in blood and having fangs was the icing on an already terrible day.

Things go from bad to worse when I get a summons to attend the vampire king’s court, where I get my marching orders. I’m given one lousy week to get my affairs in order, and then I’m to present myself to the conclave to commence my hundred years of indentured servitude, where I get to learn Vampire 101.

The thing is, I have an eidetic memory and I’m a fast learner. It’s not going to take me a hundred years to grasp this stuff. And I have plans–mediocre ones, but they’re mine. One hundred years of servitude isn’t going to fit the bill.

I need to make my escape now, before they sink their teeth into me (again). The only problem is they’ve sent the vampire that turned me to keep a sharp eye on me, and he keeps looking at me like I’m a fine glass of merlot. Escape isn’t going to be easy.

My name may be Bunny, but they’re going to learn there’s nothing fluffy about me....

Dive into this fast-paced urban fantasy series if you love humor, heart, found family, and a slow-burn romance.

The Vampire and the Case of her Dastardly Death is the prequel to The Portlock Paranormal Detective series by Heather G. Harris & Jilleen Dolbeare, Narrated by Alyse Gibbs.

We are introduced to Bunny and Fluffy, her unexpected turning; which may not be so unexpected and her escape to Portlock, Alaska.

It fills in a lot of information on Bunny and how she gets her K9 companion. It does leave open-ended questions concerning the identity and reasons behind her transformation.

This prequel novella perfectly sets the stage for Bunny’s next adventure. With this essential background information, I’m now ready to dive into the main series. I highly recommend reading this prequel before starting the series.

Audio: Alyse Gibbs does a wonderful job with her voices. I found them to fit each character; especially Bunny.

About Heather G. Harris

Heather is an urban fantasy writer and mum. She was born and raised near Windsor, which gave her the misguided impression that she was close to royalty in some way. She is not, though she once got a letter from the Queen’s lady-in-waiting.

Heather went to university in Liverpool, where she took up skydiving and met her future husband. When she’s not running around after her children, she’s plotting her next book and daydreaming about vampires, dragons and kick-ass heroines.

Heather loves to travel and once spent a month in Thailand. Thai food remains a firm family favourite. It goes without saying that Heather is a book lover. She grew up reading the likes of Brian Jacques and Anne McCaffrey.

About Jilleen Dolbeare

Jilleen Dolbeare is the author of the Shadow Winged Chronicles, an urban fantasy series about a shape-shifting bush pilot in Alaska.

She loves riding horses, warm ocean beaches, and long walks in the mountains, none of which she can do in the Arctic, so she writes.

Her activities are riding her four-wheeler on cold ocean beaches (often frozen or covered with ice), and long walks to and from work when it’s 40 below—in the dark. She does keep her stakes sharp for those vamps that show up during the 67 days of night.

Jilleen lives with her husband and two hungry cats in Barrow, Alaska where she also discovered her love and admiration of the Inupiaq people and their folklore.
