A peek into the Nook: May’s magic and mayhem.
Grab a cozy drink and settle in for this month’s highlights.

The first week of May brought my parents into town for a wonderful visit! They finally got to see the new house we moved into two years ago. I arranged a fantastic private tour with San Francisco Jeep Tours for a full day of exploring the city and Muir Woods. Even after living in the Bay Area for ten years, there was still so much I hadn’t seen, and I got to discover some brand-new spots. We all had an absolute blast! The next day, we headed over to Pier 39 to see the sea lions, enjoyed a delicious lunch, and strolled around. My parents loved every minute of their visit!

Week two was completely packed with appointments—from doctor and dentist visits to after-school sports. Unfortunately, my hubby got hurt during one of the soccer practices and we had to make an emergency run to the hospital to see what was going on. That initial trip led to quite a few follow-up visits. They suspected he might have broken a rib, but because the X-rays were inconclusive, everything was left up in the air regarding what was actually wrong.
Week three was relatively quiet—until the weekend arrived! For Memorial Day Weekend, my boys headed out of town for the Davis AYSO Soccer Tournament. They played two games each on Saturday and Sunday. Of course, the Kid ended up getting hurt during one of the games and we had to take him to Urgent Care on Sunday evening for a wrist injury. Because it was so swollen, the X-rays didn’t clearly show a break, but he is in a lot of pain. We have a follow-up appointment with the doctor in a week for a re-check. Hopefully, it’s just a bad sprain and not a break! In the meantime, it’s Tylenol and keeping his wrist and hand wrapped up.
We finally made it to the last week of school! The eighth graders basically had a week full of fun days—complete with parties, a pancake breakfast, and plenty of graduation rehearsals. On Friday, we went to the 8th-grade graduation ceremony. The best part for the Kid? Getting to head home right after it was over, while the rest of the school had to stick it out until the 12:18 early dismissal time!
When it comes to reading, May was pretty much a no-go for me. I didn’t actually start a book until the very last Wednesday of the month! Instead, I’ve mainly been binge-watching short Chinese dramas on YouTube. I just haven’t caught the reading bug lately, but I guess that’s exactly how it goes when you’re a mood reader. I usually start the year off strong, but then life gets crazy and my reading slows down or hits a total standstill for a few months. Hopefully, come summer, I can fully dive back into some audiobooks!
