A peek into the Nook: June’s magic and mayhem.
Grab a cozy drink and settle in for this month’s highlights.

June is Audiobook Month, but it was also the start of the FIFA World Cup! ⚽ I spent the month watching soccer all day, every day, trying to catch every single game. Some of them were real nail-biters!

The kid finished up school back in May, so the first week of June was wonderfully relaxing. We just chilled! We even went down to Manhattan Beach for the weekend to visit family and celebrate a cousin’s engagement. We had so much fun. The drive from San Francisco to LA wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected; it was actually a really nice half-day drive, so we are already planning to visit Disneyland on our next trip down.
Week two was all about getting into a summer vibe. My hubby is retired, but he recently started a 🎮 gaming company and is currently working on designing a game for Roblox! The kid is even helping out by testing it and finding bugs in the code.
As for me, I’m making sure to walk at least 5 days a week and do some core exercises. I also started up 🎨 paint-by-number again (you can check out my TMST Summer Plans post for more on that!). It’s been a year since I last felt like painting, so I’m really glad to be back at it and enjoying the relaxation. I usually have an audiobook going or a soccer game playing in the background while I do a little painting.
Week three, my son started 🏃♂️ Cross Country workouts with the High School. He’s never done Cross Country before and will be a freshman in the fall, but he absolutely loved his first week of practice! He’ll be trying out for the team, and I’m so excited to see him branching out on his own and finding new things he genuinely enjoys. It’s both heartwarming and a little bittersweet to see my baby growing up. Plus, Cross Country will be great for helping him make new friends and building up his stamina for soccer! To keep his mind moving alongside his feet, he’s also reading for 30 minutes a day, and I got him some math books to keep his skills top-notch since he absolutely loves math.
His left wrist is still broken from that final Spring AYSO soccer game, though. We’ve had a ton of doctor visits throughout May and June, and he’s still wearing his brace. We are remaining hopeful that at his next appointment at the end of this month, we’ll get a positive outcome and can finally remove it!
Meanwhile, my hubby went to Chicago to check on his mom and stepdad. His stepdad, Baba, ended up in the hospital, and Grandma Rollie was getting pretty stressed. It’s hard watching family get older, but when it comes to family, you do whatever you can to help out.
By the fourth week, my hubby was still in Chicago and had rescheduled his return flight twice. If nothing else pops up, he should finally be back by July 2nd! Meanwhile, the kid had a super active week—🎾 tennis in the morning and 🏃♂️ Cross Country workouts in the afternoon. It was a full day of exercise for him, so he was understandably exhausted. Over the weekend, he just chilled and took a well-deserved break from working out. We even watched Howl’s Moving Castle together, which is one of my absolute favorite movies! As for me, I finally finished the next read-along book. My reading is still slow going—it’s taking me about 9 to 10 days to finish an audiobook—but that’s totally okay. It’s summer, and I’m just chilling!
The fifth week starts off in late June and rolls right into July. We saw our orthopedist and got some updated X-rays on the kid’s wrist. Fantastic news: he got the all-clear to remove the brace! He just has to do some easy exercises to get the strength back into his wrist, and absolutely no pull-ups or push-ups for a week. He is incredibly happy to have that brace off at last.
Wishing everyone a fabulous July, and to my fellow friends in the United States, a very happy 250th anniversary!

You have a busy summer going. But relax and enjoy. I’m behind on everything books. But August is usually good for staying in out of the heat and getting ahead.
We are really just trying to recharge this summer before the kid starts his freshman year of high school in August! My reading and listening have been a bit slow lately, but I’m totally okay with that—just taking it easy. Thanks so much for visiting, Anne!
